Keeping the Curtain Open

Any of you who have experienced the independent theater Neighborhood Flix already know what a jewel it is in Denver. No more smelly theaters with bad tasting expensive popcorn. If you truly love going to the movies, this is the place to be.

Neighborhood Flix, like all independent, local, small businesses, have stiff competition with the national brands. And we here at the business alliance believe that the best way to succeed when faced with companies with deeper pockets is to come together as a community.

If you love independent business and want to make a real impact in ensuring our community contains unique and good businesses, here's your chance.

The following is a letter we recieved from Leanna over at Neighborhood Flix about two special events they're organizing to raise the capital they need to keep the curtain open. Notice the 2 for 1 tickets for $10 - a great deal and opportunity to experience what makes Neighborhood Flix so special.:

Named 5280's "Best Independent Theater" in its first year, Flix is Denver's only family-owned movie theater, located in the renovated Lowenstein Theater Complex on Colfax along with Tattered Cover and Twist & Shout.  www.flixonthefax.com

My name is Leeanna Marsh, theater manager for Neighborhood Flix and I'm reaching out to you for your help-

Since Neighborhood Flix opened its doors a year ago, it has had to fight against larger territorial movie chains for the fair opportunity to showcase first run films.   In the film industry, the first few weekends of a film are the most lucrative.  We've been working very hard to secure these opening films for our fans, and to help us bring in the business we need to keep our doors open.  Yet, we haven't been successful due to the overwhelming influence, deep pockets, and business practices of our competitors.

We are continuing the fight, but need the support of our community to help keep our doors open.   As a response, we're organizing two fundraising events.

First, we are selling a "2 for 1" movie ticket coupon for just $10- perfect for date nights, birthday gifts and office pick-me-ups.  We have a limited number to sell, and they will expire Dec.1st.  Our neighbors, Twist and Shout and Tattered Cover have also agreed to sell tickets- so you can find them there as well.

Second,  we will be hosting a special evening for the people of Denver who would like to help a small, minority-owned business keep its doors open.

**Thursday, October 9th we will host a special engagement showing the film 'The Pursuit of Happyness' staring Will Smith. Tickets are $100 a person and include appetizers and cocktails starting at 6 p.m.  The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m.  Let's try and sell every seat in the house!  In support, our own community is coming together donating their time, service, food and beverages. **

Please join us and help this special establishment, and incredible family, continue their dream of serving this community.   Please RSVP to me, Leeanna Marsh, and share this with anyone you know who'd like to see Neighborhood Flix keep its curtains open.

Thank you so much-
Leeanna Marsh
