Governor Ritter Proclaims Colorado Local First Week

Today I picked up an honorary proclamation from Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr., proclaiming November Governor Bill Ritter Proclaims Colorado Local First Week23-29, 2008 as "Colorado Local First Week." This is very exciting for us as we work to raise awareness of the vital link between locally owned businesses and a stable local economy.

The text of the proclamation reads:

Whereas, Colorado Local First is a campaign initiated by the Mile High Business Alliance as part of its mission to build better communities through better business; and

Whereas, through an online directory, Colorado Local First will broadened the market of local businesses, further connect our communities, and serve as a vital resource for both consumers and businesses; and

Whereas, local businesses are owned by local members of the community, making their success important and relevant to their neighbors; and

Whereas, local businesses buy heavily from other local businesses, creating a "multiplier effect," which allows the flow of money in the region to create a stronger, more viable and stable economy; and

Whereas, the more than 430,000 Colorado based companies found in this online directory add culture and unique local flavor to our communities, contributing tot he distinctive feel of our capital city and our many other communities throughout the state; and

Whereas, the State of Colorado joins the many organizations, businesses, and local partners in promoting Colorado Local First Week, and encourages citizens throughout the state to think "Local First" and expand our Colorado economy;

Therefore, I Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim November 23-29, 2008,

COLORADO LOCAL FIRST WEEK

Special thanks to Governor Ritter and the Governor's office for their support of our initiative and of the local businesses that are the backbone of our Colorado economy.
