Businesses Hope Coloradans Will Buy Local
This is a fantastic Buy Local Week flashback!
Smaller businesses are hoping Coloradans support local stores during their last-minute Christmas shopping.
Show of Hands in Cherry Creek is not only a locally owned store; they carry mostly locally-made items, including jewelry, from artists around the state.
"Probably 70 percent of the work that's represented is from artisans right here in the state," Douglas Brugger with Show of Hands said.
There is artwork that can't be found anywhere else.
"These are original creations," Brugger said.
Buying local has a huge impact on the community, so Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper is also trying to get the word out to keep the cash in town. For every $100 spent, $68 returns to the community, creating more jobs, tax revenue and unique shopping experiences.
"I always tell people buy locally, go out around Platte Street, go to Larimer Square between 15th and 17th, kind of right down from My Brother's Bar; great cool shops there," Hickenlooper said. "Larimer square is one of the most beautiful downtown market areas in any city in the country… wherever possible get what you need for your family with buying locally."
As Christmas draws closer, local merchants think shoppers will like what they have to offer.
